We have tried a handful of mobile printing apps in the Apple App Store, and one of our favorites is Printer Pro by Readdle. It not only connects to Xerox devices with ease, but also any other printer or multifunction unit on the network – no matter the brand. Documents print just like they appear on the screen, and the setup process is painless. The only stipulation is that your iOS device and the printer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

How To Get Going

1. Go to the App Store and download the Printer Pro Lite (Free) version. Do not buy the paid version just yet, we want to make sure your printer will work correctly within the application.
2. Launch the Printer Pro Lite application on your iPhone or iPad and follow the easy on-screen instructions. If the app does not see the printer automatically, download the Printer Pro Desktop software to complete the connection.
3. When installation is complete, select the printer to be setup. A confirmation screen will display that the printer is available for Printer Pro printing. Note: Installation of multiple printers is available.
4. Assuming all goes smooth, purchase the Printer Pro app from the App Store to unlock the full features of the app. The free version only allows to test the compatibility of your copier or printer. The iPhone App runs $4.99, while the iPad App costs $6.99.

In testing, we had no trouble connecting to any of the Xerox equipment in our office, but we needed the Printer Pro Desktop software to get everything working correctly. Some printers and copiers will work without the software.

Once installed, usage of the app will be depend on what the user. The application can print from Safari, clipboard, contacts, iWork, photos, e-mail attachments and Dropbox. Most apps allow printing by choosing the export or “Open in” arrow found in iOS applications (indicated by the red circle in the Dropbox example below). Photos and contacts can print directly from within the Printer Pro application itself, and Safari prints by placing a “p” in front of the “http” in the web address.

Windows

1.  Choose File, then Print from the application window – in this example, we’re using Word 2010 but should work the same in most Windows programs.

2.  Select your preferred Xerox printer, and then go to the Printer Properties which is located under the active printer in Office 2010.

3.  Choose Secure Print on the Paper/Output tab, and then enter in your personal security code in both dialog boxes.

4.  Hit Ok and then Print to send the job.

5.  Go to the machine you sent it to, select Job Status from the touch screen, highlight your job by selecting it, and then finally release it by keying in your code you entered in step 3.

Mac

1.  Choose File, then Print from the application window – in this example, we’re using Pages but should work the same in most Mac programs.

2. Select your Printer, and then go choose Xerox Features from the third drop-down menu.

3. Choose Secure Print, which is found under the Paper/Output drop-down (if it’s not already selected), and then enter in your personal security code in both dialog boxes.

4. Hit Ok and then Print to send the job.

5. Go to the machine you sent it to, select Job Status from the touch screen, highlight your job by selecting it, and then finally release it by keying in your code you did entered step 3.

Jim recently upgraded to the new Xerox 700 to help his shop meet the demands for his client base.  “We had jobs coming in that we had to turn away because they required custom off-line finishing that took a lot of time.
